The active solar region designated with the number 30 appears in the visible hemisphere of the nearest star. Dwarfed by the solar disk, the group of sunspots that make up region 30 really covers a huge area, almost 10 times the size of the Earth.

the photographs were taken on July 15, 16 and 17, 2002 by the MDI instrument at the SOHO Observatory, stationed in space, while solar rotation slowly leads to the group of sunspots along the side of the Sun closest to U.S.

On July 15, a powerful solar explosion broke out in this region, followed by a mass ejection in the crown. The electrically charged particle energy cloud hit our planet.
